No Shoulders Please!

We are often met with confusion when we say we don't allow our store pets on shoulders. I think this meme explains our reasoning faster than I ever could.
Even for our store birds that we know are typically nice, there's still a risk when allowing a big bird on your shoulder. If they happen to lose their balance, they're going to use their beak to grab onto the closest thing they can reach. Which would happen to be your ear. Or cheek. Or nose. I don't know about you all, but those are body parts I would personally prefer to remain bite-free lol.
They can also get defensive when they're up there. They know you can't really reach or see them very well, which means if they decide they like it up there, they're not coming down. And then you're stuck trying to get an unfamiliar bird off your shoulder/back where you can't really see them or their body language. That's another great way to get bit.
The only exceptions to our no-shoulders rule are our littlest birds, like Kirby the lovebird, Treasure and Coco the cockatiels, and Benny the bourke parakeet. Everyone else, we ask that you keep them safely in your hands for a better experience for everyone.
Now, some of our birds know this rule, but still try hopping to your shoulder anyway, should they see the opportunity (looking at you, Gabby and Ruby). So we are always keeping an eye out and are happy to jump in to assist in getting them to a safer location.
What flies with your birds (see what I did there haha?) is not always going to be a good idea with a bird you don't know that well. Even if your bird does fine on your shoulders at home, we still ask that you follow the rules we have implemented with our birds to keep everyone safe.
