The mighty coconut! Coconuts are a great source of healthy fats, full of antioxidants, and tastes great. Have you been intimated by coconuts at the grocery and not sure what to do with them, how to use them, or if your bird would even like them! Here’s an easy way I like to use coconut for all of our birds!
————————— 1. Use a drill to open up the coconut. Using a drill bit, drill into one of the 3 “eyes” of the coconut. Flip into a jar and let the coconut water drip out. Save this for a great treat for your bird (or yourself!). Our finches and canaries LOVE this part!
2. This is the fun part…use a towel to wrap the coconut up and take outside to a driveway or sidewalk. Take a hammer to it and tap away until your coconut is broken up into pieces
3. Take that same drill bit and make holes into the coconut chunks.
4. Add to a skewer with other fresh veggies, fruits, or toy parts and let your bird go to town!

I usually save a bit of the meat without shell and add to my chop, too! Have fun with it! And be safe
