Welcome to 2022, the year of the Foraging Birdie

2022 is here and ready for us! This time of year always gets us thinking about ways to improve, prepare, and plan for the coming year. Don’t forget about your feathered companions, too! As we get into the depths of Ohio winter I find myself with more time on my hands and more time at home. What better than to spend it improving our bird’s day-to-day life with new activities? Foraging can sound a bit foreign or scary to some, but it is one of the most simple and basic activities that your bird needs to thrive. Foraging for parrots is simply offering something desirable with a little bit of a challenge. It can be something as simple as wrapping a nut in a muffin liner and putting it in their food bowl or something more complex like making a foraging tray with multiple layers of food, toy parts, shredded paper and compartments. Every bird’s beginner needs are different and variety is key.

My goal for 2022 is to plan new foraging and enrichment items each month to share with you and help your birds along this journey. It doesn't matter if you have an inquisitive new baby or a 40-year-old “perch potato” that doesn’t care for most toys. Every bird can and will learn to forage if we give them the opportunity. We are kick-starting the year off with some great savings for our foraging and puzzle toys to use as bases throughout the year. Our staff has so many wonderful ideas to share with you, too! Make sure to check out our Facebook page and this blog throughout the month for more in-depth information and ideas. I’m looking forward to a fresh start for 2022, will you join me?
